Faculty Mobility in Islamic Countries (FMIC) sends distinguished scholars to universities and research centres across the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Each placement is a working residency, not a lecture tour: the visiting professor teaches, supervises graduate work, runs specialist workshops, and starts research that outlives the visit.

The Islamic world does not lack scientific talent. What it lacks is even distribution. Teaching and research infrastructure varies enormously between member states, access to laboratory facilities is uneven, and in many departments there is simply no one working at the frontier of a given field. Whole faculties are therefore cut off from capacity that already exists a few countries away.

FMIC closes that distance directly — by moving the people. Fifteen professors, working in frontier fields, will be placed with host institutions for this cycle.

Use of Funds

The campaign covers the travel costs of the selected professors. Accommodation, monthly salary, insurance, laboratory and library access, and the rest of the research infrastructure are provided by the host university or institute — which is what makes a $15,000 placement possible at all.

Programme delivery runs from 23 September 2026 to 20 March 2027. The campaign closes before delivery begins.

Who can take part

The programme is open to faculty at accredited universities and research institutes in OIC member states who hold:

• Citizenship of an OIC member state.
• At least four years of university teaching experience.
• A doctorate.
• The rank of assistant professor or above.
• Active work in a frontier field.

Applications from women in academia, and from mothers working in the universities of the Islamic world, are particularly encouraged and supported.

How success is measured
